研究テーマ

機能性、環境、歴史、地域性など背景のある木工及びプロダクトデザインの研究。

2001-08年にフィンランドへ留学、ヘルシンキ芸術大学（現アールト大学）大学院を修了後帰国、2008年よりJasper Morrison Ltd., にてデザイナーを務める傍ら、11年に自身のデザインオフィス“kumano”を設立し、木工デザインを中心に、インテリア、家具、プロダクトデザインやプロジェクトマネージメントを手掛けている。
主な仕事として、12年にフィンランドのNIKARI社のDecmber Chair、17年に森林保全団体moretreesのSTOOL、19年に神奈川県近代美術館で開催されたKaj Franck- Geometry展の一部展示デザイン、19年に家具製造の端材をアップサイクルし活用したオーガニックコスメ“BAUM”のパッケージデザイン、国産の針葉樹を活用したカリモク家具のMASのデザインディレクターなど。
また21年にはスイス・ローザンヌの美術大学ecalにて客員教員として、日本の木の仕口を研究しプロダクトデザインとして発表する“Wood-Joint Project”の教鞭をとるなど、国内外のプロジェクトに参加しています。

Studied in Finland in 2001-08, returned to Japan after graduating from University of Art and Design Helsinki(Aalto University), worked as a designer at Jasper Morrison Ltd., from 2008 to 2018, and established his own design office "kumano" in 2011. Especially, he focus on woodwork design, and interior design, furniture, product design and project management. His initial works are the December Chair for NIKARI in Finland in 2012, the STOOL for the forest conservation organization more trees in 2017, the design a part of the Kaj Franck-Geometry exhibition held at the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art in 2019. Package design of organic cosmetic brand "BAUM" that upcycles and utilizes left-over material of furniture manufacturing, and also Inaugurated design director of furniture brand call MAS that utilizes domestic coniferous trees. In 2021, visiting teacher at ecal in Lausanne, Switzerland, teaching the "Wood-Joint Project", which studies Japanese wood joinery and apply it to the daily household products.
