研究テーマ

建築表現の多様性。光と空間についての考察。

'96年第5回JIA東京都学生卒業設計コンクール金賞、'98年新建築住宅設計競技1等賞。
大学院修了後、妹島和世建築設計事務所勤務。スイス・バーゼルに渡り'00-'04年ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン建築事務所勤務。プラダ南青山店、北京オリンピックスタジアムなどを担当。
帰国後、'04年に菊地宏建築設計事務所設立。
主な作品：松原ハウス（住宅建築賞奨励賞、グッドデザイン賞）、LUZ STORE（JCDデザインアワード入賞）、南洋堂書店改修、浜田山集合住宅改修（グッドデザイン賞）、大泉の家（住宅建築賞）など。

Japan is a leading country in the field of architectural design and historically has exerted an enormous influence on the world, especially in terms of modern architecture. On the other hand, completely unrelated to this architectural context, the city of Tokyo has become bloated and complex, making it difficult to discern the role of architecture. Nevertheless, even in a place as hard to pin down as Tokyo, while investigating the city I came to notice the many undulations that exist amid its rich topography. Unlike the superficial city, these undulations, a living legacy of ancient times, trace the structure of the land as it was before urbanization. Indeed, it is these features that enrich the urban landscape and underlie Tokyo’s appeal, one that is unlikely to change in the future. In this very new yet very old city of Tokyo, I explore new possibilities for architecture and urban design from a variety of perspectives.
